Washington DC

Washington DC's Topography

President George Washington signed an Act of Congress in December of 1790 declaring that the federal government would reside in a district "not exceeding 10 miles square..on the river Potomac." The national capital is a flat cityscape with plenty of green spaces. It has endured some growing pains since then, constantly adapting to the needs of changing times, and today the city limits reach roughly 67 square miles. Thankfully, original city planner Pierre L'Enfant's handiwork is still present, his design featuring pleasant views and a symmetrical marriage of geometry and art.

Washington DC's weather year around

Summers get fairly hot and can be humid, while winter brings a handful of snowstorms. Sightseeing is most pleasant in spring and autumn, when temperatures average 68°F, humidity is low, and nature alternately paints the city with beautiful cherry blossoms and daffodils, and autumn turns the foliage.
