What to do in Virgin Gorda, BVI

Tour Virgin Gorda

Board a ship for a relaxing cruise along the channel to Spanish Town, then tour the mountains by charter coach. In the afternoon, head for a tour of the copper mine ruins, and wind up with a swim and a snorkel at The Baths and Spring Bay.

A Day at The Baths

This is Virgin Gorda's main attraction and many people choose to spend entire days here. The giant boulders create sparkling blue pools of warm water to float around in as well as perfect little caves and crannies for the snorkeling enthusiast. Platforms and steps have been built into many of the boulders for those who want an incredible view for little effort. More adventurous sorts are encouraged to climb the boulders without the help of steps.

Boat Excursions

A delightful way to find a beach all to your own is to charter a boat for a day and sail around the coastline. Catamaran and other easily-operated sailing vessels are available at many boating shops around Spanish Town. You'll find adventure and a good time when you sail off into the unknown!.

Spend a Romantic Day on a Secluded Beach

The coastline is large enough that you will be able to find a beautiful piece of sand all to your own. Although the beaches surrounding The Baths are the most popular, other places are just as well-suited for sunning and swimming with the added attraction of privacy.

National Forests

Gorda Peak National Park, located on the northern section of the island, has 265 acres of varied vegetation and interesting trails. Exotic plants line the pathways to the top of the mountain where you can access the best views on the island. For a very different National Park experience, head to Fallen Jerusalem, a small island off the southern tip of Virgin Gorda that provides opportunities to encounter the indigenous wildlife of the island.

Take a Scenic Drive

Instead of hiking the island on foot, it is also possible to drive through many of the National Parks. Starting at the Yacht Harbor near Spanish Town, you can drive along the shimmering coast to the isthmus connecting the north and south parts of the island for views of Savanna Bay. From the north end, ascend Gorda Peak for an excellent sampling of Caribbean forests. At the peak, and all the way down, the views will astound you. The mountain villages are a delight of their own.

North Sound Water Cruise

Although many areas on Virgin Gorda can be accessed by land, the islands off the North Sound can only be reached by boat. You can either rent a small dinghy from one of the many boat launches off the sound, or hop on a ferry to explore these small treasures just off the main island.

Scuba Diving

The water is usually clear enough to see the bottom, and there is a thriving underwater world waiting to be explored. Diving is so popular here, there is even an underwater trail marking some of the best places to encounter sea life!.

Glass Bottomed Boat Rides

If underwater treasures fascinate you, but you're not a scuba diver, this one-hour trip on the Seathru that passes over the many underwater reefs is perfect for you! You can hop on at any departure, or charter a private tour.

Shopping

There are plenty of opportunities for shopping on the island, ranging from local markets with handmade crafts to beachwear shops. The various resorts around the island offer most anything you could want, but the best shopping is at Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor.

Island Hop

Since you are already in the British Virgin Islands, you should see as many of them as possible. Ferries are available at all times of day to carry you from island to island. You will be amazed at the difference a short boat ride can reveal!.
