This is the largest town on the island, housing most of the shops, restaurants, and bars available. It is a very modest town with minimal choices for entertainment, however, shopping, dive centers, and a supermarket are all part of the structure of the area.
All land that is above 1,000 feet in elevation is preserved in its natural state, and contains numerous trails for hiking and exploring. The island comprises an interesting landscape, with a dry, sunny climate that allows little more than pasture grass, palm trees and cactus to grow. Tumbling mountains of pastel green provide opportunities for sensational views of the teal ocean. A small island off the southern coast, Fallen Jerusalem, is also preserved as a National Park and is home to much of the bird population of Virgin Gorda.
