The city of Taos is located near the foothills of the Sangre de Christo Mountain Range in a high desert mesa in northern New Mexico. Small, historic streets wind around the main thoroughfare and central Taos Plaza. Sweet-smelling Catalpa trees and sage are commonly found in town, as you move out towards the high desert plateau, pinion trees and sage brush become more common.
Dry and sunny days dominate most of the year in Taos, with the exception of the monsoon season in August. Summertime thunderstorms are usually short and fierce, providing just enough water to push the desert vegetation into a beautiful bloom. Winter can be cold, especially at night, with snow falling often but never lasting very long. In general at any time of year, you can expect a lot of sun and warm days and considerably cooler nights.
Summer daytime average 82°F.
