Mission Bay District

Centered around a wide bay and surrounded by 27 miles of beaches, this northern area of San Diego has a pleasant atmosphere that invites you to stroll or roller blade along the coastline. The picture-postcard reflection of a leisurely lifestyle, the bay area is home to one of the city's most prized attractions, Mission Bay Park, where you find world-famous landmarks like Sea World and Belmont Park. There's no better place in San Diego to spend a lazy fun-filled day.

Downtown San Diego

Charming Mexican restaurants, trendy boutiques, and all style of nightspots highlight the famous Gaslamp Quarter, the hip and historic heart of downtown. This is the place to go if you're searching for jazz, microbreweries, fine dining, theatre, local artists' exhibits, or any other entertainment. The small neighborhood of Little Italy is the place to find the best pasta and espresso. There's also a branch of the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Children's Museum.

Uptown

The area northeast of downtown has many sites worth visiting, like historic Balboa Park's 1,400 acres of gardens, museums, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. If San Diego is, as they say, where California was born, then Old Town is where San Diego was born. The Old Town Historic Park and other museums recall the city's beginnings.

The Coast and San Diego Bay

Explore the quaint town of Coronado on a peninsula across the harbor. While the northern portion is home to a massive US Naval Air Station, the southern sector has a vibrant downtown, lovely dune beaches, and a great variety of fine restaurants. Meaning "the jewel" in Spanish, La Jolla is one of the most affluent neighborhoods in the country, and a delightful place to visit. There is beautiful natural scenery, fine restaurants, spacious beaches, and art galleries. This is also the site of the Stephen Birch Aquarium and Museum, as well as some of San Diego's best scuba diving sites. Point Loma affords excellent views of all points east, including San Diego Bay, Coronado, and the downtown skyline.
