Madrid is located in the center of Spain on a vast central plateau called the meseta. The city itself is a highly-developed urban center with a mix of modern and medieval structures. Outside the city, central Spain varies from great crop fields, to mountains, gorges, forests, and lakes, all filled with wildlife.
Madrid is very sunny and hot during the summer, though its arid climate fortunately makes it a dry heat. Spring and autumn are fresh and balmy, certainly the nicest time to visit temperature-wise. Winters are cold but not bitterly so, requiring just a good coat and moderately warm clothing, with a pair of boots recommended.
