Guadalajara is situated on a plateau in the Sierra Madre over 5,000 feet above sea level, about 150 miles away from the Pacific. The abundance of fragrant wildflowers and indigenous trees has earned Guadalajara the nickname "City of Eternal Spring." The surrounding landscape is sprinkled with volcanoes and mountain lakes.
Guadalajara is moderate and pleasant all year. Temperatures average in the mid 70°Fs and the climate is warmest and driest in April and May, followed by the rainy season during the summer months, which helps cool down the nights. The heart of hurricane season lasts from early September to late October, though strikes are rare and there is plenty of advance notice to prepare. When threatened by a hurricane strike, one should expect a 2-day displacement from evacuation to safe return.
