Granada, Spain

Granada, Spain Overview

Situated in the eastern part of Andalusia, Granada is the capital of the province. This refined city was home to the Moors in the 8th century. In fact, one of the country's most famous monuments - the palace-fortress of Alhambra - remains as evidence of the impressive Moorish architecture and craftsmanship. The Christian Renaissance left its mark here as well, in the form of beautiful cathedrals and statues.

Complementing these treasures from the past is Granada's breathtaking landscape. The lush plains rise up onto the Mulhacén, the tallest peak in Spain, which sits at the base of the fabled Sierra Nevada mountains. And down in the town, the narrow cobblestone streets are filled with artisan shops, festive cafés, and tempting restaurants. In Granada, you'll find everything from regal history to the passion of flamenco.
