Dublin, Ireland

Dublin, Ireland's Topography

Dublin is spread over the broad valley of the River Liffey around Dublin Bay in a great sweep of coast from the rocky brow of Howth in the north to the headland of Dalkey in the south, and sheltered by the Wicklow Hills. In addition to its imposing public buildings, Dublin's cityscape is particularly rich in architecture of the 18th-century with fine Georgian mansions, wide streets, and spacious squares. There are many public parks, the most famous of which is Phoenix Park with a network of roads and many quiet walks.

Dublin, Ireland's weather year around

Ireland receives a good deal of rain, which feeds the rich green Emerald Isle, because the prevailing southwesterly winds bring fronts in from the Atlantic. The climate is always mild, however, even in winter because of the warming effects of the Gulf Stream. Snow falls at high mountain elevations but prolonged frost is rare.
