What to do in Charlottetown, PEI

Biking

The Island's stunning scenery makes it the perfect place for bicycle tours. Made up of moderate hills and vast, flat stretches, bikers can see the best of the province along the 217-mile Confederation Trail, which extends almost the complete length of the Island.

Fishing

Both deep-sea fishing and freshwater sport fishing are plentiful on the Island. Deep-sea fishing boats, available along the eastern end and the north shore, can be chartered for fishing bluefin tuna, mackerel, and cod.

Golf

Prince Edward Island offers more than two dozen public 9- and 18-hole courses. Several have scenic ocean views, easily booked tee times, and are uncrowded.

Water Sports

During the summer months, water sports are quite popular. Visitors enjoy sailing, sea kayaking, boat tours, and seal watching.

Prince Edward Island National Park

This impressive park offers a 25-mile strip of beach and dunes, which runs along the north shore of the Island, plus a separate 15-mile extension further east. The beaches invite swimming, picnicking, and walking. Trails lead through woodlands and along streams and ponds. Visitors can see more than 200 species of birds. Camping is also available.

Lucy Maud Montgomery's Cavendish Home

This is the site where the famous writer lived with her grandparents after her mother's death. The foundation and the white picket fence are all that remain of the home, but the homestead fields and the apple-tree gardens are open as walking grounds. There are also a bookstore and museum, operated by descendants of the family.

Green Gables

Just one-quarter of a mile west of the Cavendish homesite is the green and white farmhouse where Anne of Green Gables was set. The house, farm buildings, and grounds re-create the settings from the book.

Beaconsfield Historic House

Located in Charlottetown, this is one of the Island's grandest Victorian homes. Visitors can tour the first and second floors, and the garden with its views of Charlottetown Harbor. Musical performances and history-based lectures are offered regularly. Children's activities are offered in the carriage house.

Confederation Centre of the Arts

Set in Charlottetown's red-brick core, this modern structure houses a 1,100-seat main-stage theater and two 190-seat second-stage theaters. There is also an outdoor amphitheater, a memorial hall, an art gallery, a museum, and more.

Confederation Landing Park

This waterfront recreation area marks the historic landing of the Fathers of Confederation in 1864. During the summer, performers in period costume re-create historical events that led to the Canadian Confederation.

Eptek Exhibition Centre

Located on the waterfront in Summerside, the Centre has a spacious main gallery with often-changing exhibits of Canadian history and fine arts. There is also a 527-seat theater and the Island's Sports Hall of Fame.

Shopping

Prince Edward Island offers many options when it comes to shopping. Around the island, visitors find everything from upscale leather goods and innovative local crafts to homemade chocolate and dozens of factory outlets.
