The Charles River is the major waterway, and the Boston Harbor empties into the Atlantic Ocean.

The ocean, however, does moderate temperatures compared to inland eastern Massachusetts. Boston can be hot and humid during summer, although cool ocean breezes often blow along the waterfront. Spring and autumn have the most enjoyable weather, but bring a light jacket for nights.
