


Dress is casual throughout the Bahamas, especially on the Family Islands. Beachwear, however, should be kept to the pool and beach. Wear light, natural fabrics and use sunscreen and a hat to protect you from the strong tropical sun.

The electric is 110 volts/60 cycle AC, the same as in the United States.

You must present either a valid passport or a birth certificate with a raised seal and a government issued photo ID.
An oral baggage declaration is required upon entering the country. However, your luggage is also subject to a customs inspection. If you are carrying dutiable items, you will need to fill out a baggage declaration form. Each adult visitor is allowed to bring 200 cigarettes or one pound of tobacco, one quart of spirits, and personal items. You must also complete and sign an immigration card and keep the carbon copy to turn it at departure. Minors under the age of 16 traveling alone or with only one parent/adult guardian must present a notarized consent form from the absent parent(s). If the child's circumstance is not covered by this requirement, check directly with a Bahamian consulate for instructions.
A $15 departure tax is charged when exiting the country.
Upon your return to the United States you will receive a customs declaration form. United States citizens returning directly from the Bahamas may bring back $600 worth of merchandise without paying duty. The next $1,000 worth of merchandise is charged at 10%. You may bring up to one quart of alcohol and five cartons of cigarettes duty free.
